Achieve Your Masters Degree Online

Rising numbers of students have reportedly set out to advance their credentials in a shrunken and increasingly competitive job market, contributing to an increase in associate’s degree enrollments, according to Inside Higher Education. And new and expanded master’s university degree programs were being established to accommodate them, the publication last year reported.

Earning a master’s degree could put you in solid company, since rising numbers of adults since the 1990′s have reportedly been obtaining them. In 2006-2007, more than 600,000 master’s degrees were awarded, up 44 percent over those awarded in 1996-1997, National Center for Education Statistics show.  The majority of those who received master’s degrees in 2006-2007 were women, and the number of minority graduate students is said to be increasing.

Students pursuing master’s degrees might find that online degree programs with flexible course formats make it easier to schedule studies. Online degree programs overall are reportedly growing fast, and students with Internet access can participate in studies for a master’s online from home or just about anywhere when they aren’t working or when the children are napping or in bed for the night. Some online degree programs are also considered “accelerated”, so that students can more quickly obtain their master’s degrees. Earning a distance learning college can also be easier with the help of tuition assistance.

There might especially be incentives for students pursuing online master’s degrees in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) subjects. As a January 2009 article in an educational magazine known as Converge tells it, the Obama administration as well as business groups and state governments have been working to enhance STEM study incentives and programs.

Master’s degree programs train highly skilled science professionals who significantly contribute to the country’s economic competitiveness, according to a quote from Council for Graduate Studies President Debra W. Stewart in a news release. STEM majors might enter careers in nanotechnology that’s involved with manufacturing products such as the iPod. They might also contribute to developments in wind and solar power that are intended to help the natural environment.

And there are a wide variety of online master’s degree programs in the STEM subjects from which students can choose. Professional science, environmental engineering, cybersecurity and bioethics are a few of the online master’s degree programs currently available. Earning a STEM degree online might enable graduates to enter industries that the Converge article reported are looking for qualified applicants.

Still, a low percentage of American college students opt for STEM studies as compared with students in other countries, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. A National Center for Education Statistics report suggests that master’s degree recipients here during the 2006-2007 academic year majored most often in education, business and health science degrees. The fewest master’s degrees that year were awarded in mathematics and statistics, the report shows. And while master’s degrees in the field of security and protective services enjoyed the largest percent increase between 1996-1997 and 2006-2007, master’s degrees in physical sciences and science technologies saw the smallest percent increase, the National Center for Education Statistics reported.

College tuition can no doubt be costly, but students can find help in paying for online master’s degrees with scholarships and fellowships in the areas of teaching, the humanities, theology, western civilization and more. Colleges, universities, organizations and non-profit foundations offer scholarships and fellowships, and some of these financial aid offerings are designed especially for women and minorities. Some scholarships and fellowships, such as those offered by NASA, the National Science Foundation, the Environmental Protection Agency, the American Society for Microbiology and the U.S. Departments of Energy, Defense and Homeland Security, are also geared toward students pursuing graduate degrees in the STEM subjects.

Pursing a online master degrees means changing the course of your life and your career.  With all the funding available for STEM field positions, a bachelor of science is a smart move until you determine exactly which specialty has caught your interest.

Adults Do Better With Online Learning!

Students can give you a wide array of reasons why they are pursuing their degrees at an online university. For instance, cost is a huge consideration. On average, online schools cost 40% less than their traditional counterparts. A second one is flexibility. The students take their courses when it’s convenient to them, working around existing schedules to earn their best online degree. This benefit is especially appreciated by people holding regular jobs or are single parents. Now, a federal-sponsored report has given a new reason to go online for one’s education: It’s just a better way to learn.

Published by the U.S. Department of Education, this new report sampled hundreds of studies on distance education over the past ten years. It came to the conclusion that online students performed slightly better than those commuting to a physical classroom or living on campus. Most important, their grades and comprehension was noticeably better. If you are interested in getting more information about online degree education research the internet.

The study primarily concentrated on adults holding regular jobs who were getting their degrees outside of their 9-to-5; who also happened to be the biggest demographic group for distance learning. It also included students in elementary, middle and high schools. Regardless of age level, the results uncovered online classes yielded higher performance.

The explanation for it all was simple, time. Online students could take their classes when it was convenient for them, such as after supper, when the kids were at school or nothing was on TV anyway. They managed their valuable time to better effect. As a result they could concentrate on whatever they found interesting or was causing them problems. This more efficient use of their time could then be used to collaborate with fellow classmates, whether to problem solve or just to review. They were maximizing their educational environment on every level.

What also helped were the different teaching tools used in campus-based courses. Videos, online quizzes, study groups and online guidance were all available to the distance student. The study discovered learning rates were not inhibited by them. It was time management that provided the greater results. The report also stated putting the entire class together isn’t a slapdash affair. Teachers have to work hard creating the curricula of their students. The top accredited schools also employ the most modern computer systems, learning management software, libraries and staff to train their professors on how to teach online.

At the same time, most hiring managers agreed the investment pays off. The best online degree programs were considered as academically challenging as classroom-taught counterparts. Another survey discovered 80% of CEOs and owners believed online degrees provided results equivalent to a campus-based program. For an abundance of information about associates degree online check out the web.

As a bonus, online graduates develop additional skills besides time management. They are more self-motivated, forward thinking, adept at online networking, team building/collaboration and the ability to learn independently. These skills are considered a highly attractive package to recruiters.

With the results of studies showing a definite advantage to distance learning, your best online degree will be what you make the time to earn. From associate to bachelor to master degree, distance learning will provide you with a discerning edge.

If You Love Working With Computers, Become A Systems Analyst!

Nearly all organizations rely on computer and information technology to do business these days. Systems analysts are people who make the computers work. At their most basic, they decide not only what hardware and software to get, but make the possible disparate systems work together. This familiarity with computers and systems makes earning a distance degree even that much easier.

In more technical terminology, computer systems analysts use information technology to help enterprises of all sizes achieve their goals. They may design and develop new computer systems by choosing and configuring hardware and software, or they may devise ways to apply existing systems’ resources to additional tasks. If you are interested in getting more information about accredited degree research the internet.

Most systems analysts usually work for specific industries, such as business or scientific and engineering companies. The computers vary with the type of company. Analysts who specialize in helping an organization select the proper system hardware and software are often called system architects or system designers. Analysts who specialize in developing and fine-tuning systems often have the more general title of systems analysts.

To get started, one should go to college and get at least a bachelors degree. For more technically complex jobs, companies prefer analysts with Masters Degrees or more. For jobs in a technical or scientific environment, employers often seek applicants who have at least a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate science, applied mathematics or engineering. The business-oriented firms look for a bachelor’s degree in a business-related field such as management information systems. Increasingly, employers are seeking individuals who have a MBA’s with a concentration in information systems. For any additional information about science degrees check the internet.

Employers apparently aren’t too picky if the student graduated from an on campus or online college for their degree. What matters is the overall reputation of the school attended. As systems analysts are considered a STEM (science, tech, engineering, and math) profession, scholarships and other financial aid is available both from standard federal and state avenues, but also through the National Science Foundation’s S-STEM grant program. A number of professional societies and for-profit corporations also offer internship and scholarship programs.

With experience, systems analysts get promoted to senior or lead analyst. Those who possess leadership ability and good business skills also become computer and information systems managers or even executive positions such as chief information officer. If staying inside a corporate structure isn’t one’s ultimate goal, many find lucrative careers as independent consultants and/or starting their own computer consulting firms.

So, considering how important computers have become to industry in general, systems analysts are making sure their career is well worth considering. Either an on campus or a distance degree works for entry into this field, as extensive familiarity with computers is the job. Start with an associate of science degree and work further as your career advances. You’ll be one of those people who get things done. Getting A College Degree Online Is Getting More Popular!

Online education is expanding in leaps and bounds. U.S. News & World Report recently wrote that 25% of all students are taking at least one course online in 2008. This was a 17% increase from 2007. Students have discovered online classes from high school through post-graduate school. The evidence is even stacking up that students learn their lessons just as well through online teaching as face-to-face class work, if not better. There’s no reason to believe the number of students getting a degree on line will do anything but grow.

In fact, the fastest growing portion is already working. Their employers are endorsing this as an expedient way to train personnel. Companies need their employees to stay current with the latest innovations in their profession. Taking online classes not only does it outside the work cubicle, but at a better price. For example, the health and insurance industries are currently studying how Obama’s new health care policies will effect how they do business. The payoff is it provides employers better skilled personnel. At the same time, the employee gets more tools to help climb the industrial ladder. If you are interested in getting more information about online bachelors research the internet.

Private companies aren’t the only ones taking advantage of e-learning. The U.S. Air Force is now requiring personnel orientation and supervisor training be done through virtual schooling. The approach allows military students and workers to get needed knowledge without having to take time off from duty, both overseas and when stationed at domestic bases.

The Air Force has even developed programs for its outside contractors to take online courses. Civilians and contractors can take courses on how to conduct business with them through seven online modules. It’s an incredible success with nearly 8,000 people taking the classes. It should be noted this wing of military service requires the 4,000 new supervisors to complete a minimum of three virtual classes annually. For any additional information about bachelor masters degree check the internet.

A key motivation for employers is that personnel can take classes any time they are free, an option absolutely not available at a brick-and-mortar school. The employees benefit in that it doesn’t cut into their paychecks. If that isn’t enough, new tech such as webcams is making studying even easier by allowing students to have video links with their teachers and fellow students.

There apparently is no sign of this slowing down either. E-learning is becoming so accepted some courses must turn applicants away, particularly when it comes to taking Master’s degree courses. Another interesting thing about the Air Force is it accepted just 150 of the 600 applicants for its free classes in military operational art and science.

Other government agencies are now copying the Air Force’s models. The Health and Human Services Department now offers virtual class programs for its personnel. Their virtual school system even includes tips one employee can leave another. Troopers stationed overseas also are taking virtual classes when not on duty. The Army even lets them put it on their tab. For an abundance of information about on line master degree check out the web.

Over 5,000 employees are enrolled each year this department’s HHS University training classes. They are also doing 2,700 classes without instructors for personnel who want quick updating courses and just need to study the online materials each one supplies. General education or getting a degree on line, distance learning is the way of the future. As more education is required to compete, those with a bachelors are going to want to attend an online masters program to make themselves the best candidate possible.

Tax Refunds Make Going Back To School Easier!

Usually, when one thinks of financial aid, they think about getting it on the front end, i.e., toward paying one’s tuition before you start class. Thanks to last year’s stimulus act, one can now get money on the back end, too. In other words, one can get a tax refund for going to college. This could be a few thousand dollars and works for on campus and online college course attendees.

This new stimulus is called the American Opportunity Credit, and is a modification of the previous Hope Credit. It came into effect in 2009, and can be used in this April’s tax filing. It would be a good move to discuss this with a tax professional so you can obtain the most benefit. If you are interested in getting more information about grants for college research the internet.

According to the IRS, the differences between the Hope and Opportunity credits are several-fold. The Opportunity Credit entitles more students (or their parents) over the next two years to get a tax credit to pay for not only tuition and fees, but also college-related expenses such as required course materials. It also includes many more people with higher incomes and those who owe no tax, which the Hope didn’t.

The full credit is available to individuals whose modified adjusted gross income is $80,000 or less, or $160,000 or less for married couples filing a joint return. These income limits are higher than under the previous Hope Credits. Because this is a tax credit, it does not mean you get the money before you pay your tuition. In simple English, if you started college last year or start this year, you can either file for it this April or next, respectively.

One gets a full refund for the first $2,000 in tuition, fees and/or costs related to going for a degree. If the costs go beyond that first $2,000, one can have an additional 25% refunded up to the next $2,000. For example, if a school year costs $6,000, one gets a 100% refund for the first $2000, 25% of the next $2,000 (or $500) and nothing for the last $2,000. That’s a total of $2,500 credit when filing one’s 2009 or 2010 income tax. For any additional information about online degree course check the internet.

If there’s one thing the IRS is serious about though, it’s to be careful with what one claims as “cost related”. For example, just buying a computer does not make it worthy of a refund. On the other hand, if the school requires a new laptop for its curriculum, it can be claimed.

Another interesting thing that’s different from the Hope is the Opportunity could turn into a refund. This could happen even if the filer is will get a tax refund without the credit. The difference is the cap is a bit tighter. The maximum refund is only $1,000 instead of the full $2,500. For an abundance of information about university degrees check out the web.

There’s one other important detail, and that’s the Opportunity credit is only good for the first two years of college. For juniors and beyond, one has to apply for what is called a Lifetime Learning credit. No matter how a student looks at it though, it’s the kind of stimulus one certainly can use when advancing their education. For more information, check with a tax expert, a financial aid officer or go to the IRS website and look up American Opportunity Credit.

Financial reasons, as much as flexibility, are considered by students when they take online college course material. Exploring this refund, as well as potential monies prior to starting school, such as online grants and scholarship, may enable more students to attend and further their careers than ever before.
